20 Why You Should Support CNCDA’s Political Action Committee Cliff Costa, Director of Government Affairs, CNCDA M any business own- ers, including new car dealers, do not realize the tremendous impact the California state legislature can have on their businesses. Too many believe that the source of all govern- ment regulation is in Washington, D.C. The allure of Washington, D.C. has distracted many of us, including myself. When I first decided to work in politics following college, I thought D.C. was the place to be; however, I quickly learned the truth. Sacramento and the state legislature will have the largest impact on the day-to-day op- erations of your business, much more so than D.C. or Congress. Why is this true? 1. Although Congress is frequently paralyzed by gridlock, California has over 2,500 bills introduced every year. More than 900 of those bills become law. The action truly happens here in Sacramento. Giving to the California New Car Dealers Association’s Political Action Committee is an investment in the future of your business.
