17 Tim became a technician team leader shortly after com- pleting the program, but stayed for only a short time before being recruited to join the state’s Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) as a Program Representative. Tim spent a total of fifteen years with BAR, serving in several capacities including Program Manager and, most recently, Deputy Chief. Tim’s career in state service has spanned nearly eighteen years, including three years with the Department of Motor Vehicles as the Chief of Occupational Licensing. As the Executive Director of the NMVB, Tim leads a small team of professional staff, including administrative profession- als, attorneys, and administrative law judges who hear and decide on protests arising between franchised dealers and their franchisors. Tim enjoys putting his automotive field- specific experience and education to work for the Board, continuing his service to an industry he values and respects tremendously. He brings relevant and interesting industry perspectives and topics to the nine members of the board during their regular board meetings as well as the industry roundtable events hosted by the NMVB each year. To that end, Tim welcomes input, suggestions, and all feedback from industry members and stakeholders, and can be contacted directly by e-mail at timothy.corcoran@nmvb.ca.gov or by phone at his offices in Sacramento at (916) 445-1888. 3 CONCERNED WITH THE COST, COMPLIANCE AND SERVICING OF YOUR DEALERSHIPS’ INSURANCE? This interest turned into a career in the industry when his high school shop teacher walked him across the street to the local community college for an interview with the resident Ford ASSET Program instructor. Tim completed his Associates degree in automotive technol- ogy, graduated from the ASSET program, and earned Master ASE certification during the following two years, all while working as a technician at a Ford dealership where he put his education to work. Tim went on to own that F-150 much later, after his 1988FordEscort lost a timing belt on Interstate 580, in Oakland, in rushhour.
